23 June 1998 - Wednesday

First news from the route. Antica is moored at the entrance to Kiel Canal. After crossing the canal she will sail on the North Sea to Amsterdam in the Netherlands, where the first change of the crew is expected. The Baltic Sea did not want to let our sailors go. When Antica got at the level of Szczecin wind changed so unfavourably  that they were forced  to change they course to NNE which led them far to the open sea. To get back near the coast they had to beat to windward for four days, getting quite a nice spanking.....

Some minor failures of equipment appeared (fortunately not dangerous) as well as fairly big waves. Captain said: "it was damn hard, but our lives were not endangered". Despite the difficulties, the young charter crew did well.
