7 September 1999 - Tuesday

We are already in Antofagasta. It was a very nice and interesting stage of the cruise. At Caleta Calder the winds changed from the Northern to the Southern ones which are definitely weaker. The temperatures has risen bringing better travelling conditions along. The nights are still cold due to the cold Humbolt current.

The landscape of the coast is constantly changing - it is getting more and more desert like. The sands often enter the very sea creating an original scenery. We are observing very strange colours of the sky and water. The new crew is acquiring practice in sailing. It seems they feel at home here.

We organised a trip to the Atacama Desert - the driest place in the world - unforgetable sensation. There is only one port left for us to visit in Chile - Arica. We spent 6 months here. The time for conclusions will come later.
